“Women for Julie” Gather to Endorse Senate Candidate Julie Killian

New York Senate candidate Julie Killian (R-Rye) was today endorsed by former and current local elected officials, as well as other local business women and moms at a “Women for Julie” event at Rye Playland.

“I am deeply honored to have the support of this strong, thoughtful group of women in this very important race for State Senate,” Killian said. “Everyone says this is the ‘Year of the Woman’ and I completely agree. It is time to send women with new perspectives and fresh ideas to Albany. Women who aren’t afraid to stand up to the Corrupt Status Quo! Westchester families deserve better. Because we all know. It’s time for change.”

Former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth said, “Julie Killian embodies everything we need in our Senator: she’s principled, honest, capable, and proven. She’s raised a wonderful family, she’s been a successful businesswoman, and she’s been a great public servant. She transcends politics to work tirelessly and effectively for all of her constituents. Not only do we need Julie in the Senate—New York needs Julie in the Senate.”

Former Congresswoman Sue Kelly said, “"I know Julie Killian to be a very smart, accomplished person. Julie was one of the first women in her chemical engineering program at Notre Dame, and worked on Wall Street after receiving an MBA from New York University. She is a strong, hard-working woman who succeeded in what used to be traditionally male careers," former Congresswoman Sue Kelly, said. "Julie is a moderate Republican, and the kind of elected official we so desperately need in Albany right now. Because of her nuanced positions, she will be able to work across the aisle to get things done, which we need more of in government. I wish Julie the best and I am proud to endorse her for the State Senate.”

René Atayan, Bronxville Republican Village Committee Chair, said, “Very pleased to support Julie Killian, an extraordinarily accomplished, strong, and compassionate woman. An individual possessing her intelligence and integrity is desperately needed now in Albany."
Rosemary McLaughlin, Chair, New Rochelle City Republican Committee Chair, said, “This Special Election is critical. Now more than ever, we need Julie Killian in Albany to fight for Westchester, root out corruption, and do something about the property taxes and poor business climate that are causing people to move out of state at an alarming rate. Julie is smart, passionate and accomplished and will do a great job as Senator. I am proud to endorse her."

Denise Pagano Ward, Vice Chair, New Rochelle Republican City Committee, said, “I am very proud to support and endorse Julie Powers Killian. Julie has demonstrated that hard work and dedication can make a difference for New York; by sending Julie to Albany, we can keep our seniors with us, in their homes and near their families; by sending Julie to Albany, we can be sure that our school districts aren’t painted with a broad NYC paintbrush as wealthy suburbs, and our children can be ensured to receive their fair share of our tax dollars and educational value. We need to stop the bleeding caused by corruption in Albany and Julie is the woman to send to Albany to do the job! I am proud to stand with Julie Killian!”
Libby Connolly Alexander said, “As a female entrepreneur and business leader, I know first-hand the challenges small businesses face when trying to build and grow companies in states that are not small business friendly. That’s why we need Julie in the Senate. She believes in cutting regulatory red tape and lightening the tax burden to make it easier for businesses to grow and thrive which will bring jobs to Westchester.”

For the last 25 years, Julie Killian has worked to make Westchester County a better place to live, work and raise a family. As a Rye City Councilwoman and Deputy Mayor, Julie led the fight to reform local government and held the line on property taxes. She also co-founded RyeACT (Rye Action for Children and Teens) to fight youth drug and alcohol abuse. RyeACT works with the federal government and regional partners to promote prevention through a positive cultural framework by training local leaders and youth, developing prevention messages and providing local access to drug and alcohol abuse prevention experts. Julie is also passionate about all mental health issues including reducing the stigma and increased awareness, helping the 4% of population that is severely mentally ill, and early intervention and prevention efforts. Born in Mt. Vernon, one of six siblings, Julie learned the value of an honest day’s work – and the importance of education – at an early age. As a teenager, she started a summer camp with her sister and waited tables at a pizza place at night, often working 15-hour days each summer to help pay for college. After earning a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from New York University, Julie spent more than a decade working on Wall Street in the financial services industry. She and her husband Gary have five children.
